Only in a Small Town...

Every year, right around St. Patrick's Day, we get to attend (and usually take part in) the annual St. Patrick's Day Top Dog Parade. At 11:45 on a Saturday morning, people line up at one end of town dressed in their favorite green duds and their dogs beside them. Some people really get into it by wearing green wigs, oversized green clover glasses, and even spray paint their dogs green. Prizes are given out to the "Top Dogs" and then the local fire siren goes off and the parade begins. There are no fancy floats, no princesses waving to the onlookers, and no high school marching bands. It's just a bunch of people walking down the street with their dogs and A LOT of kids on bikes and scooters.

Lucky for us, for the past several years we have gotten to participate in the parade because we have had a child enrolled at The Learning Corner preschool. In Chelan, it's kind of the beginning of spring. Although, today it was freezing cold, so it didn't feel very spring-like.

And the best part...at the very end of the parade, we got caught up in the middle of some guy getting down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend with his very loud, screaming mother on the sidelines. Someone has really got to talk to that guy about how to romance a woman. Maybe they really like dogs and St. Patrick's Day!

There you have it...our exciting day in small town Chelan. You gotta love it!

The girls rockin' their "Green is So Last Year" t-shirts!

All ready for the parade...they even had candy in their baskets to throw to the crowd (although Celia decided at the beginning of the parade that she was going to keep it all)

Ella was excited to be part of the parade as an "alumni" preschooler!

Celia...excited to ride in the parade with all her preschool friends.

P.S...right after the parade I completely rocked my 12 mile run....all 12 miles at goal race pace!! Woo hoo!!!
